BURIALS AND SERVICES

Bellefonte Union Cemetery internment

The cemetery does not have a staff that handles individual internments.  Therefore, all requests from outside the local area must be handled by a local funeral director who will make all arrangements.

FAQs

  • I have a cremation that I would like to put in the cemetery. Can I just bury them myself or spread the ashes?   No.  A permit for burial must be provided by the cemetery so we can account for all burials.
  • If I purchase a headstone off the internet, can you install it?   No.  For the long-term safety of the property all monuments must be properly installed and anchored. Recommend checking with local monument companies to see if they will install one that was not purchased from them. Please do this before purchasing a headstone.
  • What is Perpetual Care and what does it cover.  Endowment care, sometimes called "perpetual care", is the maintenance of the cemetery and its grounds, roads, features, and buildings including mausoleums. It does not include the care of monuments or flush memorials.  Any cemetery that states or implies that it offers endowment, or "perpetual care" is required to set aside funds with a trustee which can only be used for the maintenance purposes. The care of the cemetery may be limited to the extent of the funds earned and available based on the income earned by the trust funds which are set aside. The Bellefonte Cemetery Association HAS a trust fund for these purposes.
  • In looking at the Cemtery on-line I see numbers such as T132W3 or 1216N2 what do these mean?  These are codes that we use for plots that have been purchased but have no internment.  Here is what the numbers mean: T132W3 - T is in Taylor Annex , 132 is the plot number , W refers to the fact that there are at least 2 owners of that plot - W in this case refers to the plots on the West side, and finally the 3 means that the open plot is in the 3rd spot starting from the upper right hand corner with 3 or 6 across (depending on size of lot) and 2 rows up and down.  The other format is the same but the lack of a "T" denotes that it is in the main part of the cemetery.
